The basic idea with consoles is that you plug it in, put in a disc, and it just works. This includes franchises very much associated with the Xbox brand such as Halo, Gears Of War and Forza. Their “Play Anywhere” service means that you get both an Xbox One and PC copy of your game and you can, yes, play it pretty much anywhere. Even a lot of Japanese developers that traditionally stuck to consoles are making their games available through platforms such as Steam.īut what about those first-party exclusives? Microsoft has pretty much already bridged that gap. Nearly all major third party games come to PC now with a couple notable exceptions. Pretty much all indie games appear on PC at the same time they appear on console, if not first. But how else are you going to be able to experience all the great games available out there? You certainly can’t play Horizon: Zero Dawn, one of the best games of an already-packed early 2017, on your PC no matter how beefy it is…though you soon may be able to via PlayStation Now.įor awhile now, the barriers of content between what you can play on console and PC have been dropping rapidly. After all, owning multiple consoles and possibly a decent gaming PC is a big cost to keep up with your favorite hobby. Many have dreamed of the “one console” future.
